Nuevo Milenio 10th Graders |
Heads Up |
Today was our second visit to Nuevo Milenio. It is a private school in Grecia. In our first visit last week, the students there
helped us improve our Spanish by playing games such as Charades in Spanish.
This week, we played many games with them to practice their English. The
students were warm and friendly when we walked in. As we arrived in Nuevo
Milenio, we divided ourselves into smaller groups and introduced ourselves.
First, we played games with the tenth graders. In my group, we played a game called
Atlas. In Atlas, you start with the word Atlas and the next person names a
place that starts with the last letter of the previous word. Other groups
played games such as Charades, Heads Up, and Never Have I Ever. Throughout the
morning, we were able to switch groups and interact with many kids. Then, we
took a recess where we played a game of volleyball with the Nuevo Milenio kids.
Many of us were not good at playing, but it was still enjoyable. After recess,
we said goodbye to the tenth graders and met the seventh graders. We introduced
ourselves and played many games. My group played Pictionary. In Pictionary, you
are given a word and then try to draw it on a piece of paper. To win, your team
has to identify the word you are trying to draw. We also played a game where
two teams are given a letter and a time limit. They have to come up with as
many words they can think of that start with that letter. One team reads aloud
their words and if the other team has any of those words, nobody gets the
point. In the end, the team with the most words wins. As our time at the school
came to an end, we took a picture with the kids. Overall, the time we spent at
Nuevo Milenio was a memory nobody will forget. We were able to practice our
Spanish with kids in our age group and learn the lifestyle of Costa Rican kids.
While we were able to practice our conversation skills, we learned a lot of new
things and started new friendships.
